Day 16 Tableland - Gros Morne NP

Today was our day to vist the southern part of the park know as the Tablelands. The tablelands are actually mantle rock which was pushed up during the period when two ancient continents collided and one went under the other. The rust colored rocks are the mantle rock and are mostly heavy metal composition and thus very little can grow. On the other side of the valley it is lush and green. This side is made up of mostly sedimentary rock from and ancient sea. The contrast is stunning. We made it to take the ranger led hike (Thanks goodness, otherwise I doubt we would have understood what we were seeing.

After that we visited some of the local communities.
